i'm asking this in both groups (DW & LJ).....what should be the image size limits ----or should we have limits (aside from humungous) ----before an ad is put behind a cut and/or posted smaller?? 600 width? 1000 width?

feedback would be appreciated.....thank you!

The real answer (for me) is "if it makes my friends page scroll sideways, it will make the text in other entries expand sideways and make the whole page of 25 entries hard to read". But I don't have a good sense of how wide an image has to be to do that.

On my 1024x768 screen, 600 is a fine limit. Personally I'd be very happy not to see images that are wider than that on my reading page.

Oh, and I just noticed this: the layout makes a difference. On my reading page, large images overlap the sidebar. On the comm page, they're cut off and that is not a problem.

I'd love to help test, and I can provide screenshots too.

600 width is probably the safest, especially with more and more people reading on phones and tablets. My ipad zooms way out to fit some of the big ads from the LJ feed, so the picture fits on the screen, but the text (on my entire reading page) is a tiny column.
